"One cannot blame a horse for behaving like a horse. He does not behave badly on purpose. What appears to be bad behavior in response to our expectations is merely the result of poor communication. The horse is unable to have 'bad intentions' as we know them. It is not in his nature"
AQHA'S FUNDAMENTALS OF HORSEMANSHIP,STEP 1
The Barre Riding and Driving Club would like to pass along these guidelines to ensure a safe and fun ride for all in parades.
Before you arrive:
Please be sure to prepare yourself and your horse for loud noises and crowds.
Tie a Red Ribbon to the tail of any horse that is known for kicking.
NO STALLIONS
AT THE PARADE:
1. Always stay a horse length away from other riders or groups in front of you.
2. We STRONGLY recommend wearing helmets.
3. If you have to pass, ASK first. Please be sure the other riders know you are passing before you pass. Pass at a walk.
4. Be aware of younger nervous riders, (or horses). If you are a more experienced confident rider, offer assistance. There will be a Barre Riding and Driving Club "Parade Marshall", please see them with ANY issues. The Parade Marshall will also have the right to ask you and your horse to leave if they feel it is unsafe.
5. Communicate with each other so no one has to guess what your next move will be.
6. SMILE, SMILE, SMILE AND HAVE FUN!
